Nave Noblique

Meet Mr. 'Blique aka "Mr. Nobody." He isn't from Chicago, nor does he live here but his music has inspired me for some years now. Basically, the reason I started rhyming. He's a suburban rapper born and raised in Jackson, Michigan which is similar to my background. His music is lyrical and motivative. It has and still keeps me on my Ps and Qs. The first project that I heard fully was entitled, "Alls Well That Ends" in 2010. All of his projects are lengthy and they are all worth it because they're all FREE on DatPiff. Everybody loves FREE and good quality! Around the time his project dropped, I reached out to him and received useful advice. He's a soulful guy. My favorite songs on that project are Apollo, Lookin' for the Fame, Mr. Nobody and Guns DO Kill People. I highly recommend you to give him BOTH ears because his lyrical schemes are nuts!

Right after "Alls Well That Ends," he released another project just 4 months after entitled, "Long Daze Scuffed Nikes." That showed me his progress in his flow, style and delivery. All of his music has a Hip-Hop style with an Emo Rock tendon. He raps off of beats produced by Johnny Juliano and more! Some of my favorite tracks on "Long Daze Scuffed Nikes" are Brand New, Move It, Guitar Gently Weeps and You and I.

Supa Bwe's The Re Re

I've heard about this new song scrolling down my Twitter timeline this past weekend by an artist named SupaBwe. I've introduced him before but to refresh your memory he's 1/3 of the group Hurt Everybody. He's his own writer and producer which is DOPE because not only does he produce for himself but he produces for his group. I've also noticed that he's not the only producer in his group which is a plus because he and his group can collaborate on beats.

His sound is very unique. He reminds me of Chance the Rapper the way he sings and pronounces his words. The song is called "The Re Re" and repeats over and over, "I just came to Re-up. I ain't come to party. I'm just here to serve you." I'm pretty sure it's a drug related song but it's very rival to me. The bass is powerful and it eases your ears to his sound. He does a lot of yelling, which shows passion in my opinion. This guy has much potential. He and his group have a definite future. Hurt Everybody has over 4,400 fans on SoundCloud and 48 songs to listen to. I'd say give Hurt Everybody a listen.

Tink or Dreezy?

Ayo! So I heard Timbaland is producing for Tink's new upcoming project. I'm partially jealous because Timbaland is the closest affiliated with Missy Elliott. I really adore her. ANYWAY..Tink is a singer/rapper from Chicago. I was introduced to her music by Ricky Rue. I really liked her style but I enjoyed her singing more than her rapping just because she actually sounds good. I've watched many of her videos previously and they've earned my respect because she's hustling. It's rather difficult for any female to be heard nowadays and I stand by any female trying to do something positive.

Along with Tink, I ran across another female rap artist by the name of Dreezy. Tink and Dreezy were once friends and then enemies. I've heard so much controversy over how the conflict began and how it ended. I do know that they both dated the same guy who was Mikey Dollaz from a Chicago rap group M.I.C. I heard both songs from the two female artists dissing one another and that's how Dreezy got more exposure.

When I heard Dreezy, I thought she was very masculine but I don't blame her. That's the way you have to approach this type of hustle as a female artist. I like Dreezy to some degree but I can't relate to her. That's where the gap is. Dreezy's buzz was CRAZY after releasing her remix to Lil Herb's & Nicki Minaj's "Chiraq" right after she released her 13 track mixtape entitled "Schizo." Both ladies are talented and I suggest everyone to give them a listen or two.

RickyRue Tuesdays!

Okay, I've mentioned him before and I'm doing it again. I've honestly figured that our generation is "thirsty" for fame or any type of recognition that'll make you feel important. This is Ricky Rue. He became a "rapper" last year sometime and ever since, he hasn't stopped. This is good, that he's aware of consistency. It's also terrible that he can't rap. BUT..somewhere out there, there are people who love him. I will say, releasing material every Tuesday isn't a bad idea but does he have a plan?

This week, he released his own version of Bobby Shmurda's Hot N*gga. Let me warn you people, it wasn't the best but he tried. In less than 24 hours of promotion for his new release, he had a max of 145 views and 5 likes and 5 dislikes on YouTube. What does that tell you? The people want something else OR his target needs to change. This reminds me of when the rapper Waka Flocka Flame first started with his first hit single "Oh Lets Do It." Waka had gone into the business knowing he couldn't rap but his goal was strictly to turn the club up every chance he got. As for Ricky Rue, neither tactics were successful. Knowing Rue personally, shows that he really could careless. I don't knock the attitude but he doesn't have a plan.

CTR or Vic Mensa??

There's been a lot of controversy over these two artists. I have been told that the two were related? Cousins maybe. I find it extremely crazy that they sound EXACTLY alike musically. The two find their expressions through experimental live music. I think it's absolutely amazing but I was put onto Chance the Rapper before I even knew who Vic Mensa was. I did a little research and it looks like Mensa was out before Chance. Not to mention their affiliation with Chicago band "Kids These Days" and #SaveMoney. I'm unsure if #SaveMoney is still in motion, but it looks like they had a collective. Not sure how it works anymore.

ANYWAY...

Hearing CTR's "Brain Cells" first put me in a different perspective. I never heard anything like him and I thought that he was throughly original. Of course, you'll hear peoples opinions here and there about his originality being subjective. Again, I thought he was very much impressive, knowing that he was only at the beginning of his journey. As for Vic Mensa, I later heard "Orange Soda" and it almost made me think that these two were the same people. They sounded too similar. I thought Vic Mensa was good but after hearing something like him before, changed my perspective. I didn't enjoy Mensa's music as much as I enjoyed CTR's. Is that bad?

Okay so as a female artist myself it means so much to me to see other female emcees on the rise. Nowadays we're in so much competition that we forget to pat those we support on their backs and say, "keep grinding." Introducing AJ Peace, apart of the Higher Learning clique along with artists feature Roy French, Black Ralphl and more. She released her EP entitled "Know Aj" at the beginning of August.

Knowing Aj personally, she's very optimistic and creative along with her trendy look that really grabs peoples attention. She's also happy 24/7 and I've never met a person like her, she embraces new faces and new adventures. Here latest song and visual, "I Don't Feel Bad" was very interesting. One Hit Wonder!

We've had so much new music come out of the midwest and there's been many problems with staying on "your rocker" as an artist. "Your rocker" means on top, consistency with having something to bounce back to the public after your highlight. For example, everyone knows the song, "FeFe on the Block" by Stunt Taylor. I've met him one on one before his career popped off and numerous times after the hit single's success. He's been the same, humble guy with a positive attitude and he knows his lane. This is good. Anyway, my point is the hit single, "FeFe on the Block" was promoted months before the song populated and circled the city (Chicago). Along with when the bopping dance populated, it all created a new wave. Once it was the hottest song in the city, Stunt watered his buzz by riding out the wave of his hit single for too long. This is not beneficial for any new hits the artist has to offer especially if the song is whack. He released another single, "Flee Amigo" just months after the single went viral.

The message is, if you're an artist always be prepared for the music business. It's not all about chains, money, labels etc. It's about your relevance as an artist. No matter how long it takes for you to put your material together, don't rush. Just make sure that everything you're doing is somewhat relevant to what you do. This is 80% of why I haven't released any music because I'm preparing my listeners/fans for a journey folks. I want my music to be the reason you're motivated.
